In June 2019, XRSI launched the XRDCF (XR Data Classification Framework) Public Working Group.
That initiative set the ground for the new phase we are facing now, working with the community to build a safer Metaverse.

Scope

XR Data Classification Public Working Group seeks to leverage the existing, publicly available work, plus the work of the other data classification schemes including General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to produce stated goals. XR-DC-PWG seeks to develop a data categorization scheme based on the potential impact on the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and information systems.

The working group aims to:

  1. Describe high-level common XR use case scenarios to illustrate and describe the role and importance of and relationship between data protection and mass adoption of XR tech.
  2. Provide guidance on dealing with risk assessment issues for the use case scenarios (including but not limited to):
    1. Determine if any suitable classification scheme exists for the scenarios;
    2. Guidance on the suitability of data classification mechanisms;
    3. If it does not exist, develop recommendations for future development.
  3. Describe overall guidance on overall security considerations throughout the data lifecycle (Create, store, use, share, archive, destroy).
  4. Help develop good practices relating to data and information exchange with various third parties and considerations for service level agreements (SLAs).
